RESTORE
Reimagining a garage for an electric future. Design competition hosted by Volvo Cars Canada and The Interior Design Show (IDS). Design awarded as competition finalist and honourable mention.
“Restore”: a pavilion that responds to our evolving transportation needs by embracing technology and honouring the natural environment. The inspiration was to reinterpret the traditional garage as a charging “hub” for an electric vehicle as well as a space for personal health and wellness. The goal is to better connect and elevate a daily experience and create space that recharges and restores.
“Sean’s Restore’ concept drew connection to Volvo’s emphasis on the future of mobility. It’s a bold, expressive reimaging of the traditional garage space that keeps in mind the future of our planet while honouring Scandinavian design.”

The main structure consists of the vehicle charging bay as well as an entry gallery with reflective water feature. A wood louver screen wraps the perimeter and tucks below a sculpted roof. An interior platform extends into the landscape and encircles a planter. Natural stone, wood louvers and organic shapes connect and enhance the relationship to the environment. A large overhead skylight frames the sky and optimizes interior day lighting. The roof doubles as a large solar array which provides charging capacity for an electrical vehicle and supplemental power source for a main house.
Architecture can play a meaninful role in health, healing and wellness. By reimagining the traditional garage, we can better utilize domestic space that needs to evolve with our changing lifestyles. This project hopes to reveal the hidden potential in everyday moments that, once transformed, can uplift body and mind.
“Restore” incorporates advanced green energy technology while combining an approach to space that connects us to the environment and invites relaxation and renewal.
